Abuse linked to a belief in so-called 'spirit possession'

Jason Morgan, is a retired Scotland Yard Detective with over 20 years’ experience as a Child Protection Officer. In 2015 he retired from the Metropolitan Police Service after 30 years’ exemplary service. During his service, as well as working on Child Abuse Investigation Teams, he investigated paedophile murders, linked series rapes and serious sexual assaults. Jason became a specialist in cases involving children abused through a belief in spirit possession (Project Violet) and abuse linked to so-called ‘honour’ based violence including Forced Marriage, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) & Breast Ironing.  Jason also oversaw and advised other police and statutory agencies nationally on cases that are suspected of spirit possession related issues.

As a police officer he was a trainer for the nationally accredited Specialist Child Abuse Investigation Development Programme. Jason trained police officers and children's social care in Joint Investigations and Video Interviewing of children and vulnerable adults. Jason has been commended by chief police officers, judges and non-government organisations for his child video interviewing skills, his detective ability, professionalism and his services in protecting children and developing 'training for trainers' programme for the Every Child Matters initiative.

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

In 2005, Project Azure was set up as the Metropolitan Police’s response to dealing with FGM.  Jason was part of the Partnership & Training Team of the Child Abuse Command which set up Project Azure.  His work on raising awareness of FGM (at the time a vastly under-reported crime both in the media and in crime reporting statistics) was successful raised the profile of the crime both among professionals (including police officers), the media and the general public leading to an sixteen-fold increase in interventions with 3 girls being saved from FGM prior to the campaign and 47 girls as a result of their campaign.  His work led to national and international coverage on this formerly taboo subject.

As part of the Partnership & Training team within the Child Abuse Command, during his career as a detective Jason developed and delivered training on FGM to police officers, statutory agencies and communities.  He spoke at conferences both nationally and internationally on the subject and oversaw and advised on all FGM investigations within London.

Online Grooming, Sexual Abuse, Sexual Exploitation against children and Child Trafficking

Prior to being a Child Protection Officer, Jason Morgan was a Homicide Detective for the Metropolitan Police and investigated cases including the murder of Daniel Handley an 8 year old boy who was murdered by two known paedophiles and abducted from Beckton in East London and his body was discovered in Bristol.  He also investigated a linked series of stranger rapes on children in the East London/Essex areas in the late 1990's.
